ABOUT MICHELLE
My other interests alongside the Fitness App are Powerlifting, which I am very passionate. I have been training for approximately 4 years and competing the last 2 years. I have been on the platform for National and International competitions, received British records for my Squat, British and a World Record for Bench Press.

What is Powerlifting?
Powerlifting is a strength sport where athletes compete to see who can lift as much weight as possible for one rep. Athletes are divided by gender, weight and age, and compete in Squat, Bench Press and Deadlift. Each athlete has three attempts to reach their maximum weight or one rep max, then a powerlifting total is determined by adding their heaviest lifts.
Powerlifting is a very positive sport, it doesn't matter what your age is, your weight, or even if you have a disability, everyone is so supportive and genuinely wants you to do well.

135kg Comp PB
TOTAL 312.5kg (5kg up from last year and new British Record)
Squats were the day for me, they were the heaviest I’ve ever opened at, and over the moon with the end result. My dream was to squat over twice my bodyweight, and I achieved it.
Bench, my opener of 60kg felt good, but it just wasn’t there for the world record of 65kg this time.
Deadlifts easy opener of 125, then a technical issue wasted my second lift, and finished off with 135kg, which I’m happy with as still a PB for me in the conventional.
I did my best on the day. I take away something from every comp I do, always learning, always wanting to improve. I’d forgotten how much stage fright I get, but I also forgot how much fire I get in my belly and hunger for more. I need to not leave it too long before the next one.

It’s been a full on year, I had a a fantastic qualifier, then it dipped at the British, but I got my redemption yesterday on my lifts I didn’t get last time, so I am over the moon.
I put in the work, did my absolute best, and came away with 2 records.

My first lift I dropped as lost my grip, then I kind of lost my stride. Wasn’t my day for deadlifts.
6/9 Lifts
I weighed in very light at 56.7kg. Then the day didn’t start off well due to having a terrible headache, but the team looked after me and I carried on regardless, and I’m really pleased with the outcome.
I placed 1st in my category (British Champion M1 U60kg), have a World Record on Bench and have an invitation for AWPC World Championships to represent Great Britain in September.
What an amazing experience to be apart of, I will take away lots from this competition.
World Championships next on 8 September 2022!
East of England Qualifier
2022
ABPU East of England Qualifier 2022, held at Mammoth Gym Lowestoft. This was my first official Powerlifting Meet (Competition), I competed in the M1 U60KG. I achieved British Records for Squat and Bench for M1 U60KG.
Squats
I opened up at 97.5kg, as this should be a pretty easy opener for me, but it was actually quite tough, maybe my nerves as it went up really slow. My second lift was a British Record attempt at 107.5kg, this was nice and smooth considering how my opener felt.
Last up, 110kg for another British Record attempt, and I got it! 3x White Lights and 2x British Records.
Bench
My opener was 57.5kg, and was a nice easy start. Second lift, I picked 62.5kg which is what the British Record is currently, felt ok. Lastly, 65kg a British Record attempt, which I didn't believe I would get as failed this before in training... But it went up with no fight! 3x White Lights, a British Record and a Personal Best.
Deadlifts
These are not my strongest lift, so wasn't expecting anything amazing, but I gave it everything. I opened at 117.5kg, second lift 125kg and finished off with 132.5kg which was a bit of struggle, but a personal best, so was pleased with that.
2x British Records for Squats, 1x British Record for Bench.
Total score of 307.5kg and I have qualified for the Nationals in July. I really enjoyed the day, and over the moon with the outcome. Yes it was very tiring, and the lead up was stressful with all the gruelling training, staying at weight, let alone the fear of catching covid.
I hope I have inspired others to lift.
